Selecting the Right DJ

Your wedding is the most important day in your life. You have been building up to this day and so much effort has gone into the preparation of making it spectacular.  You have a nice venue for the party, the décor is exactly as you want it and you have ‘a’ DJ getting ready to make your party memorable … or so you think.

Most people assume that if you have seen one DJ you have seen them all. A typical profile of a DJ is a person with a set of speakers and a few lights who plays music for a few hours. This misconception tends to cause more harm than good, leaving families feeling very frustrated. This is when you realize that the DJ you hired has the influence to make or break your party!

It is a simple fact that the entertainment you choose for your party will determine the success of your event. It is great to have a wedding theme, the perfect venue and delicious food, but the one thing that guests remember above all the effort you put into your party is the entertainment. This decision can make or break your event.

Help is at Hand

Hiring the right DJ for your event does not have to be a stressful exercise.  Based on experience, we have taken what we believe are the most decisive factors you need to consider in hiring a DJ for your party.  Follow these simple steps and you will have no trouble hiring the right entertainment for your big day.

  • Realistic budget
If you want the cheapest DJ, expect the cheapest service. You get what you pay for so do not expect to get great DJ service if you are looking for a DJ around $500.  It is useless spending thousands of dollars on the venue and décor if you do not have a DJ that can compliment that setting.

  • Experience with weddings
It is important to ask the DJ if he has actually performed at a wedding party. Playing at an anniversary, engagement or birthday party is not the same.  You want to hire a DJ who knows the setting and usual schedule of events when it comes to a wedding party.

  • References
Ask for them.  A DJ should have no trouble providing references for you from past clients.

  • Contract
Do not hire a DJ unless you are provided with a written contract stating the full details of the booking. Do not accept a few handwritten words. Get the full breakdown of the booking including all the terms and conditions.

  • Equipment
This is perhaps one of the most overlooked areas.  The quality of a DJ’s sound system is very important and contributes a large part towards the overall entertainment experience.  Make sure you know what you are paying for.

  • Professionalism
Expect this without even asking for it.  A DJ should give you everything you need to help you make an informed decision regarding entertainment services. If you do not see the professionalism from the moment you meet with the DJ, walk away.

  • Music knowledge
You are hiring a professional DJ because of his expertise in music. Test him! Ask him to tell you on the spot what the top Hindi/Bhangra songs are for a wedding.  A confident and experienced DJ will tell you in a heartbeat.

  • And Finally, Good Old Common Sense
You will know when you start talking to a DJ if he is the right one for you. Above all, it has to be a choice based not only on facts, but also on your personal preference. Take your time before you book the entertainment for your party. Follow the above steps and we guarantee that you will find the right DJ that will truly make your event memorable.
