Tips for the MC

You've been chosen to serve as the Master of Ceremonies at your friend's wedding reception, but you're a little nervous. We've come up with some great tips to ease your anxiety and ensure that you'll have all 500+ guests loving you (no pressure!)

Know the Itinerary

As MC, it is very important that you know the entire wedding schedule. It is your responsibility to know the order of events so you can cue them accordingly. Take note of last minute changes by keeping in constant communication with the bride and groom.

Be Confident

Everyone will be looking at you when you're speaking so you need to exude confidence. This may come naturally to some and may require a lot of practice for others. Do what you need to do and remember not to be nervous!

Know your Audience

Know the names of everyone in the bridal party and any important family members. Ask the couple if they would like any out of town guests to be recognized and do so if they request. Keep a notebook with you just in case you forget a name or two.

Be Enthusiastic and Engaging

If you don't have fun the guests won't have fun! Make that your mantra and enjoy yourself while you're up there captivating your audience.

Be in Tune

Observe your audience while you speak and be receptive. If you're on your third joke and no one's laughing - it may be time to change your style a bit. Also know in advance what your limits are. The anecdotes about the groom's wild past in college may not be well received by the bride's grandparents.
