Sonam Kapoor Got Hitched! All You Need to Know About the Feisty Diva’s Grand Indian Wedding

Of all the women who make up Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor takes the cake for being the most glamourous, dressed to kill, and perhaps the only one who you wouldn’t catch dead in an unflattering outfit. So when it was time for this diva to get hitched, all eyes were on her magnificent trousseau. From the shutterbugs to the run-of-the-mill blogger, everyone sat on the edge of their seats as they watched Sonam marry beau Anand Ahuja, owner of chic apparel line Bhane. We can’t imagine a more well matched couple!



Though the mehendi ceremony was officially on the 6th of May, Sonam had her hands dyed by pro mehendi artist Veena Nagda a day earlier, at the Kapoor residence in Juhu. For the occasion, she donned a stunning dupatta in dusty pink and accessorised with heavy chandbalis. Her sharara was also a dusty blue and the muted gold border on both proved alluring in the dim light. The star was joined by Jhanvi and Khushi, her cousins, and also Sharanya Kapoor, as they brought the Juhu residence alive with their shenanigans.





The next day, the day of the mehndi ceremony, saw all close relatives from Anil Kapoor’s side of the family get henna-ed. Sonam chose to don a Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla outfit with a detailed gold weave in her high neck blouse, while Anand looked dapper in an off-white bandhgala suit. The two posed together between dancing around and meeting with the who’s-who of tinsel town.

The undisclosed dress code seemed to whisper muted creams and beiges, as most stars who showed up donned combinations in either pastels or creams, flanked with intricate gold borders.

Sonam’s chura ceremony was also organized on the same day, at her pad in Sunteck Signature Island, Bandra. Her close friends Jacqueline and Swara seemed to be having a ball, while a video of Jahnvi sitting as Sonam tried to shake some kaleere on her went viral the same day. On the 8th of May, finally, after days of intense partying, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at Sonam’s aunt’s house in Bandra. Sonam looked dazzling in a red lehenga by Anuradha Vakil, while she donned an intricate maang tikka and some pretty heavy-duty neckpieces to go with the stunning gold of her lehenga, including a choker in a shaded-down gold. With her makeup done to perfection and her hair tied back, Sonam allowed her accessories to be the star of the show. The skirt of the lehenga was designed with a thick border in gold weaving, while the dupatta was draped around her and covered her head. Sonam’s gorgeous jhumkas also caught our eye as they complemented her accessories perfectly! Anand, on the other hand, was dressed to the T in a traditional bandhgala as he also donned a turban in proper Sikh style! He carried strings of rubies and pearls graciously around his neck, and also carried a kirpan, or the traditional Sikh dagger, with him. The couple posed for a couple of candids before and after the nuptials, which saw a whole bunch of tinsel-towners in attendance.









As evening rolled near on the 8th of May, everyone geared up for a proper Bollywood-style reception. Apart from the Kapoors and the Ahujas, the Khans of Bollywood looked all set to bring in the new couple tons of heartwarming wishes. Videos of Shahrukh and Salman shaking a leg went viral, as did ones of Anil Kapoor letting loose and showing us what a real bhangra looks like! As Bollywood danced away the night, Sonam and Anand, in their well-matched outfits, brought some of their own filmy moves to the do and made sure nobody left without shaking a leg!
