Nixon Library Reception with Books, Jazz and Crystals - 4
If there was a title to this wedding reception it could be "The Book of Love" (it's one of my favorite songs by The Magnetic Fields). Nushin & Fayaz's wedding reception took place at the
Nixon Library in a ballroom which is an exact replica of the White House East Room. The couple's love of books became more apparent as escort cards were modeled after library cards and each table was named after one of their favorite books. Lavish floral arrangements in purple, pink and green adorned the ballroom whilst luxurious pearl and crystal candelabra centerpieces graced each table. A spectacular black and white cake embellished with Arabic monograms and calligraphy sat grandly in the corner atop a crystal covered platter. Another personal touch was the addition of an old-school white gloved jazz singer softly singing "Fly me to the Moon" since both Nushin and Fayaz are jazz lovers.
As part of the evening’s ceremonies, Fayaz and Nushin stepped together on the “sapatiyo” (clay pots) for luck in their marriage (Nushin did so with her cast) and Nushin was asked to scoop up as many coins as possible from a tray to symbolize the wealth of the marriage. They also continued a 100 year old tradition of a small town called Bukoba in Tanzania, where the father of the bride and groom were covered with a shawl symbolic of the joining of two families.
