1. Do It Yourself
A lot of brides these days are fearlessly experimenting with their bridal lehengas by mixing and matching the different elements of the outfit. Try and visualise your dream lehenga and get set go! You can cut down on the budget when you will design your bridal lehenga yourself.
2. Bling it Home
If the lehenga of your choice is too expensive, go for a lighter one in shades and designs you like. You can always make it heavier by adding latkans, gota patti borders, mirror work and kamarbandhs. Other than that, you can embellish the top of your lehenga by adding embroideries and reducing the ghera of your lehenga, which will save on the skirt.
3. Go Local
Yep, you heard that right. Local stores can be equally good at a fraction of the cost. Don’t hesitate to buy your lehenga from jam packed streets- you can find gems if you look closely!
4. Take off One Inch Border
Most of the girls have no idea about how much one inch border could add up to your wedding lehenga. Ask the one you are buying lehenga from to cut down one inch and it will reduce the cost by 8000-12000 INR. Isn't it awesome! You can even ask them to take off one centimeter border from your dupatta.
5. Time It Right
The best thing perhaps is to go in early, preferably months in advance, so that shops don’t fleece you with last minute sales. This also gives you ample time to have it altered and get the outfit together.
6. Look Right!
Ask for a lehenga for your engagement ceremony- shops usually quote irrationally higher prices if you say the words “wedding lehenga”! So, start by asking for a sangeet lehenga or may be an engagement lehenga and then once you've seen a few, ask them to show wedding lehengas. This method is definitely going to work!
7. Wait for the Sale
This one’s a personal favourite- get the dates of when your favourite store has a sale and then go for that gorgeous lehenga you’ve been eyeing for so long.
