In this CineMonday wedding video of Samira & Biren, watch the groom's family and friends take a very creative approach to the Haldi ceremony (also know as Vatna in Punjabi). At around the 0:38 mark is when the action really gets going.
Once they are finished rubbing the Haldi on Biren, his wedding team, in unison, pours a glass of crystal clear Palace water on him. And then to really give him a good wash, Biren's buddies take him for nice refreshing "dip" in the Caribbean ocean.
The Haldi ceremony has some ancient roots back to the subcontinent of India. Typically there is no opportunity to wash off the groom afterwards out in the open. Only on a destination wedding at a sunny resort, in this case at mighty Moon Palace, does such an opportunity present itself to add such a creative spin to a very traditional ceremony.
Do you know the meaning of the Haldi Ceremony? Here's a hint, it's very very very good for you and it's explained in point number one, here.
